CORALIE ARMSTRONG –OUR GUEST ARTIST-SALA FESTIVAL 2008

Coralie Armstrong was born in 1945 in central western NSW. After studying science at the University of Sydney, Coralie pursued her artistic career by attending evening classes with Allan Hanson and Fred Bates at the Royal Art Society of NSW.

An art scholarship in 1967, sponsored landscape watercolour classes with G.K. Townsend and this was followed by evening art classes in London in 1968 and 1969, with Raymond Coxon and landscape classes with Fred Bates in Sydney from 1970 to 1980. After moving to Adelaide in 1981 she did tutorials in painting with Bruce Vinall1981-1986 and Robert Hannaford in 1984.

Coralie's works have been exhibited widely throughout NSW, NT and SA, receiving numerous prizes and awards. She has had her work hung in the Wynne exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. In 2006 a watercolour of Ediacaran fossils won the section for works on paper of the 2006 Waterhouse Natural History art competition.

Coralie works in a variety of media. Her works on display during the SALA Festival will show her strength of style and versatility. She uses a decorative palette to portray the strong landscape scenes in the Australian environment.

Coralie Armstrong is a Fellow of both the Royal Art Society of NSW and the Royal SA Society of Arts. She has been a long time member of the Adelaide Art Society and a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute since 1973.
